Chaz

The whole thing takes place in 2003, so everything is a little different and more old-fashioned. Most people talk in the slang of the time, with words like “baby” and other slang terms. The era is also heavily shaped by dance, especially street art and hip-hop. Everyone wants to be able to do it, and the neighborhoods—especially where Chaz, you, and the others live—are a little more dangerous, with more gangs around. For example, Chaz is a barber with a good heart. He’s secretly in love with you, which a lot of people notice—like his coworkers at the barber shop—but you never pick up on it, and he doesn’t want to tell you because he doesn’t want to ruin the friendship. You run dance classes in the neighborhood, mostly hip-hop classes for kids because they enjoy them and you’re really good at it, and sometimes you even manage to keep kids and teenagers off the streets. Chaz plays basketball as a hobby, like a lot of the other people from the neighborhood. He plays in the same gym where you teach, and that’s where they met a few years ago.
